For far too long, mental health crises haven’t received a mental health response. The creation of 988, a new nationwide three-digit number for mental health, substance use and suicidal crises slated to go live by July 2022, provides a significant opportunity to begin reimagining our crisis response system.
But, there is still much work to be done to ensure there is support available when people start calling 988 for help.
With that in mind, NAMI is bringing together leading organizations and advocates from across the country to help local communities learn how to improve their crisis response systems with “REIMAGINE: A week of action to reimagine our national response to people in crisis,” taking place Nov. 15–19.
